The institute of future civil engineering sciences and technology at Chongqing Jiaotong university is a research institution approved by the General Affairs Office of Chongqing Municipal Committee of the CPC, with Yuanming Lai, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the President of Chongqing Jiaotong University, serving as the chief scientist.

Our institute focuses on transportation in the "Fourth Pole", targeting the world’s "Third Pole" passage, and addresses the "China-Russia-Mongolia" infrastructure, extending to Arctic routes and Antarctic airports, supporting the strategic development direction of "Deep Space" base construction and maintenance. By leveraging resources in the field of extreme environmental civil engineering and disaster prevention, both domestically and internationally, our institute aims to be at the international forefront of civil science. Moreover, we systematically conduct research on green advanced materials, intelligent construction and maintenance technologies and equipment, and fundamental theories of geotechnics and structures under extreme conditions, such as extreme heavy rainfall, prolonged heat and drought, high-altitude hypoxia, strong radiation, low temperatures and freeze-thaw cycles, high-pressure water and gas environments, high geothermal temperatures, and high geostress. We also establish a collaborative innovation system that integrates "theoretical originality - technological breakthroughs - engineering demonstration - industry promotion" and aims to become a top-tier center for frontier civil science.

Through the interdisciplinary integration of civil engineering, transportation, materials, mechanical engineering, information technology, and management, our institute has achieved original theories, advanced materials, innovative technologies, and intelligent equipment. This facilitates the transformation of civil engineering towards intelligence, sustainability, and low carbon, and elevating the university’s disciplines from regional industry advantages to international forefront standards.
